Erika L. Shaw, 76, of Columbus, GA died Monday, February 15, 2016 at Gentiva Hospice.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, February 19, 2016 at the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907 with Pastor Judy Hay officiating. A private interment will be held at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mrs. Shaw was born January 21, 1940 in Giessen, Germany daughter of the late Erich and Margarete "Gretel" Eisenacher Bock. Erika was a kind, strong, independent woman, as well as a loving mother, and good friend. Her German heritage was very important to her and she passed her love of that heritage on to her daughter.
She retired from Hughston Clinic as a Medical Assistant and kept in touch with the many friends she made while working there. The family would like to say a special thank you to those good friends for supporting her until the end.
She was a devoted wife and mother and enjoyed baking and cooking her German specialties. She loved to read, listen to music, enjoyed attending concerts at the River Center and was a lifelong learner.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Ernest Shaw and her brother, Hans-Rudolf Bock.
Erika L. Shaw is survived by daughter, Christine U. Shaw of Columbus, GA; sister, Ursula Coolhaas; nephew, Schelto Coolhaas; niece, Anette Moeske and her daughter, Monique of Giessen, Germany; brother, Erich Bock (Marlene), nephew, Sebastian (Tatjana) and their son, Konstantin, of Fellingshausen, Germany. She is further survived by loving family members in Germany and the Shaw family of Sutton, West Virginia.
The family would like to acknowledge Erika and Ernie's very special lifelong friends, the Diskin and Stewart families, for always being in their lives.
