Frank Ronald Griffin, Sr. 78 of Columbus, Ga. died Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, July 18, 2014 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907 with Rev. Thad Smith officiating. Interment will be held in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
Mr. Griffin was born July 20, 1935 in Atlanta, Georgia son of the late Frank Harvey and Stewart Taylor Griffin. Mr. Griffin retired after 17 years with the Columbus Consolidated Government. During his career, Mr. Griffin held the position of Deputy City Manager and at the time of his retirement was the Transportation Coordinator, a liaison between City of Columbus and the Department of Transportation. He was instrumental in acquiring grants to fund such projects as the original Traffic Helicopter and the existing Emergency Medical Services. Additionally, Mr. Griffin played a major role in developing the J.R. Allen Parkway in Columbus, Ga.
After his retirement, Mr. Griffin enjoyed gardening, his pets and most especially taking care of his neighbors. He will be missed by all.
Survivors include his wife; Lydia G. Griffin of Columbus, Ga., two daughters; Brenda Robertson (Vic) of Madison, Al., Tisa Truett (Andy) of Dahlonega, Ga., two sons; Bret Griffin (Tonga) of Atlanta, Ga., Chip Griffin (Karen) of Midland, Ga.,one sister, Gloria Loveless of Tucker, Ga. 9 Grandchildren and 1 Great Grandchild.
