Colonel Turman was born in Live Oak, Florida to Walter E. and Annie Mae (Musgrove) Turman on March 12, 1929. His early childhood was a farm life where he learned the values of hard work and tenacity to complete a job to its optimum conclusion. Colonel Turman’s traits as a leader were evident from an early age when he started school early to ensure that his older sibling made it to school. He graduated from Suwanee County High School in 1947 and after a stint in the Army National Guard he joined the US Army in 1949. Shortly thereafter he married the love of his life Edna Earle McCullers in 1950. Colonel Turman served with distinction in the Korea Conflict and the Vietnam War finalizing his career as Chief of Staff of the First Support Brigade in Mannheim Germany, the largest brigade in the US Army at that time. Having just begun his career as a private, Colonel Turman rapidly moved up through the ranks to Warrant Officer and finally accepted a commission and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. His many service awards include the Combat Infantry Badge and the Bronze Star. Colonel Turman entered the real estate profession in 1973 and opened Turman Realty Company, Inc. ten years later. He taught property management courses for the Columbus Board of Realtors, became president of the Columbus Multi-listing service and was awarded the coveted Demar McEathern award for service and professionalism. During this time, as a personal hobby, Colonel Turman repaired bicycles for children of deployed service members.

He was predeceased by his wife, Edna; his parents, Walter E. and Annie Mae Turman; his brothers, Eugene and Donald and sister, Rebecca Heilieger.

Colonel Turman is survived by his sister, Frances Warner; his son, William (Dixie), daughter Frankie, son, Robert, grandchildren, Shannon Rowe (Jonathan) and Angela McRae-Reed; as well as great-grandchildren Andrew Rowe (Madyson), AnnaBelle McRae and Graham Reed.
