Fred Howard Mcguire

Fred Howard "Bud" McGuire, long-time resident of Columbus, Georgia, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 in Hernando, Florida. Mr. McGuire lived most of his life in Oak Grove Community near Pine Mountain, Georgia.
Mr. McGuire was born on November 22, 1934 and was 81 years old. He is survived by his children Peter, Paul, Mary and Hamilton, and his foster daughter Nancy. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Sandra, his daughter Becky and her unborn son Hayden, his parents, R.H. "Pete" and Freddie McGuire, his sister Carolyn and his brother Richard.
He was a graduate of Chipley High School, Class of 1954, where he was a basketball star. He served in the U.S. Navy. Howard was a big supporter of the Valley Rescue Mission and the Boys Club in Columbus. Having lived most of his life in Pine Mountain, he learned how to make McGuire's famous barbeque from his father, Pete McGuire. For many years he ran the family dairy in Oak Grove Community. After accepting Christ as his Lord and Savior in the mid 70's he and his wife began a Bible study group in their home. He was truly a fisherman of men and is remembered as a righteous man, who lived his life for Jesus Christ. He founded McGuire's buildings in 1969 and used this business as a ministry to the community. This business is still being run by his son Paul McGuire, and business partners Bruce and Nick Lisle.
McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus, Georgia is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation to receive family and friends is scheduled for Friday, January 29, from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Services and interment will be held on Saturday, January 30, at 2 p.m. at Oak Grove Congregational Christian Church in Pine Mountain, Georgia.
