George Lamar Winters, Sr., 76, of Phenix City, AL died Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, GA.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Friday, March 3, 2017 at the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907 with Rev. Dick Reese officiating. The following will serve as Active Pallbearers: Billy Bray, Bobby Gayles, Don Daughtry, Brett Bowers, Carson Bowers, and Robert Scruggs. Interment will follow at Riverdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
Mr. Winters was born March 19, 1940 in Phenix City, AL son of the late Joseph Virgil Winters and Mary Ellen Rigby Winters. He was a 1958 graduate of Jordan High School and retired after 43 years from RC Cola and then helped raise his grandchildren. After this retirement, he worked for 10 years as a driver for Carl Gregory.
He loved going on cruises, collecting hot wheels, watching the History Channel, playing Mexican dominos, and spending time with his friends and family. George never met a stranger, and to know him was to adore him.
Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Petri Ann Winters, daughters, Pam Bowers (Lee) and Ginger Hooper (Heath) all of Phenix City, AL, son, George Lamar "Bubba" Winters, Jr. of Newnan, GA, 6 grandchildren, LynnLee Jones, Kyndra Picard, WesLee Bowers, Baylee Pair, Avery Hooper and Ashlyn Hooper, 2 great grandchildren, Taylor Crawford and Madelyn Picard, and his loving dog, Lilly.
Flowers will be accepted but those so desiring may make memorial contributions to St. Jude Children's Hospital 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 38105.
