Gerald L. Cook, Sr., 87, Columbus, GA, died Monday, August 18, 2014 at Gentiva Hospice.



Funeral Services will be held 3:00 PM, Thursday, August 21, 2014 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907. Interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5:00-7:00 PM at the funeral home.



Mr. Cook was born August 25, 1926 in LaGrange, GA, son of the late James H. Cook and Ethel Wilkinson Cook. He was a WWII Navy Gunner aboard Merchant, Cargo, and Troop Ships both in Atlantic and Pacific. He participated in the Cuban Blockade and the 1962 Belgian Congo Uprising. He was also a Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Trinity Temple Assembly of God. He retired after 21 years as a civil engineer from the civil service at Martin Army Hospital.



Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Geraldine Cook Burgdorf.



Survivors include his wife , Vivian Grace Cook; daughter, Sharron Hopkins (Wayne); son, Gerald L. Cook, Jr. (Susan) all of Columbus, GA; Step-Daughter, Pam Ivey of Phenix City, AL; sisters, Iris Lloyd (Don) of Pine Mountain, GA and Bobbie Eldridge of Columbus, GA; brother, Raymond Cook (Omi) of Smiths Station, AL; 8 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
