Gladys I. Wright, 93, of Columbus, GA died Friday, September 18, 2009 at her residence.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at Edgewood United Methodist Church with Reverend Roy White officiating. The following will serve as pallbearers; David Wright, James Bergeson, Steven Webster, Sam Thayer, Ben Thayer, and Robert Bergeson. A private interment will be held in Ft. Benning Main Post Cemetery. Visitation was held Monday evening from 5-7 PM at McMullen Funeral Home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907. The family will also receive friends after the service Tuesday.

Mrs. Wright was born August 24, 1916 in Beloit, WI daughter of the late Frank and Alma Swanson Kitelinger. She was a homemaker and a longtime member of Edgewood United Methodist Church where she was in the workbasket circle, Chrismon circle, and a member of the Administration Board. She was a member of the East Columbus Lions Club having served on local and state levels. She was a Melvin Jones Fellow recipient. She was a Red Cross volunteer and also a member of the Eastern Star of Ft. Benning Chapter 278. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Homer E. Wright and her brother, Robert Kitelinger.

Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Ann Wright Bergeson (George) of LaGrange, GA, two sons, Lt. Col. Rt. Richard H. "Dick" Wright (Ginny) of Leavenworth, KS and Lt. Col. Rt. Allen Thayer (Sandra) of Atlanta, GA, sisters, Beatrice McDonald of Aiken, SC and Mable Laird of Monroe, OH, grandchildren, Sharon Wester (Steve) and her children, Zachary, Rachel, and Courtney all of St. Louis, MO, David Wright (Larissa) and their children, Katherine and Jacob all of Nashville, TN, James Bergeson and his children, Mary Elizabeth and Clara all of Marietta, GA, son, Robert Bergeson of Auburn, AL, and Theresa Pasternack and her children, Christina Smith of Pine Mountain, GA , Briana and Lindsey Crawford both of Panama City Beach, FL, and Sally Geiger (Billy) and their children, Maggie and William Geiger all of Fairhope, AL, Sam Thayer (Penny) and their children, Abby and Samuel Thayer all of Charlotte, NC, and Ben Thayer of Charlotte, NC.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Georgia Lions Lighthouse 1775 Clairmont Rd. Decatur, GA 30033 and Georgia Lions Camp for the Blind 5626 Laura Walker Rd. Waycross, GA 31503.
