Dr. Hank Avera, 59, of LaGrange, GA passed away Sunday, May 24,2015 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, KY.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Friday, May 29, 2015 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel, 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus, GA 31907. Dr. Hank's body will lie in state Thursday, May 28, 2015 at LaGrange Pentecostal Holiness Church, 44 Youngs Mill Road, LaGrange, GA 30241 from 11:00 to 1:00 PM. The family will receive friends later that evening at McMullen Funeral Home from 5 to 8:00 PM.
Dr. Hank was born September 14, 1955 in Washington, DC; son to the late Miles Henry Avera, Jr. and Jean Giddens Avera. He was known to be a man of God and was a very special person. He touched many lives through the Gospel and his music. He started singing gospel music at the age of 15 and began ministering in 1987 serving the Lord in that capacity for 28 years.
Survivors include his wife of almost 40 years, Sandra Gail Arrington Avera; daughter, Wendy Scott of Franklin, GA; two sons, Keith Meacham (Stephanie) of Franklin, GA and Kevin Avera of LaGrange, GA; two grandchildren, EmmaLee Scott and Aaron Scott (Rebecca) both of Franklin, GA; one great grandchild, Rhett Scott of Franklin, GA; one sister, Barbara Avera of Albany GA; and a niece and a nephew.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations may be made to LaGrange Pentecostal Holiness Church, 44 Youngs Mill Road, LaGrange, GA 30241.
