Helen Margaret Kieltsch Bentfeld, 97, of Columbus, GA passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at her son’s residence in Phenix City, Alabama.

Helen was born on October 13, 1924 in New Castle, Pennsylvania to the late Otto Kostendt and Anna Marie Roth Kieltsch. She grew up and went to high school in McDonald, Ohio where she met and married her high school sweetheart Ben. They stayed married for over 75 years before he passed away. Helen was a majorette and cheerleader in high school. She was very active during her younger years enjoying bowling, boating, and swimming. Helen and her husband settled in Columbus, Georgia in 1966. Helen devoted 28 years to the United States government at the Fort Benning JAG office. She received many awards for her work during her career. Helen was an active member of the Eastern Star as well as a long-time member of Morningside Baptist church.

Other than her parent she is preceded in death by her husband Ben Bentfeld and son Chuck Bentfeld. She is survived by her son, Bud Bentfeld of Phenix City, AL, and her grandchildren, Candice Edwards of Columbus, GA, Marty Bentfeld (Jessica Brady) of Columbus, GA and five great grandchildren all from Columbus, GA.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, October 6, 2022 in the chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory with Pastor David Rathel officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
