Herman Earl Wire, 69, of Columbus passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2026 after a lengthy illness.

A visitation will be held Friday, August 28, 2026 from 6:00 till 8:00 at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.

Herman was born December 26, 1956 in Worcester, MA to the late Albert Wire and Emma Reinhardt Wire. Before retiring, he was employed by the Columbus Consolidated Government in their security department. Herman will be remembered for his quiet strength, his strong commitment to principles and devotion to his family. He was down to earth in so many ways. He loved spending his days fishing or hunting, and thoroughly enjoyed a good meal that included dessert, especially if the recipe belonged to his German mother. He created beautiful wood crafts and patiently refurbished old furniture. Most of all, he loved his family. He enjoyed spending time with them, especially his niece and nephew and their families.

He is survived by his brothers, Harry Wire (Elena) of LaGrange, GA and Jimmy Wire of Columbus, GA., niece, Alexis Raley (Braxton) and nephew, Ryan Wire (Joanna). Four grandnephews, Logan, Asher, Madden and Arlo, and one grandniece, Mia. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Dorothy.
