1SG Ret Jack D. Hyder, affectionately known as "Flash," passed away peacefully at his home on March 30, 2026. Born on October 25, 1931, in Mullens, West Virginia, Jack lived a life marked by dedication, service, and deep commitment to his family and country.
Throughout his distinguished military career, Jack earned the respect and admiration of those who knew him, serving with honor and distinction. He was a longtime member of the USAMU both as a shooter and coach. His legacy as a 1st Sergeant is one of unwavering discipline, leadership, and a profound sense of duty. The values he embodied throughout his service remained a guiding force in every aspect of his life.
Jack's personal life was rich with love and devotion. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Annamarie Hyder, whose memory he cherished deeply. Together, they built a family that would become the source of his greatest pride and joy.
Survived by his son, Joe Hyder, and daughter, Heidi Harris, Jack took immense pride in watching his children and their families grow. He also leaves behind his daughter-in-law, Janet Hyder, and son-in-law, Michael Harris, who stood beside him in love and support. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren: Jacob Hyder, Joe Hyder, and Victoria Hyder, who were the light of his later years.
Be was a lifelong outdoorsman and loved hunting turkey, deer, elk, and moose. He was often joined by his son and grandson.
Jack’s life was a testament to strength, sacrifice, and family bonds. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him, inspiring future generations to live with honor and compassion. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
