James Nelson Duty, affectionately known to his family and friends as "Jimbo", passed away at home, on Sunday, May 21, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Survivors include his loving wife of 16 years, Beverly Ann Duty, three sons: Scott and Jennie Duty of Merton, WI, Kevin and Gina Duty of Portage, WI and Keith Duty and his partner, Ken Bankson of Bixby, OK. His stepchildren include: Noelle and Brian Keith of Fortson, GA, Timothy Mercado of Nashville, TN and Christopher and Monica Mercado of Nashville, TN. Two brothers, Dr. Joseph Edward and Margaret Duty II of Seneca, SC, William and Lynn Duty of Toledo, OH and a sister, Dianne and Jules Winkler of Perrysburg, OH. He was predeceased by a brother, John Michael (Jack) Duty and a sister, Deborah Lynn Horner. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Duty was born in Toledo, Ohio in February 10, 1941. He was the son of Dr. Joseph Edward Duty and Sara Scarborough Duty. He worked for the JC Penney Logistics LP for 35 years as Operations Support Manager for Telemarketing and retired in 2005 and lived in Morgantown, WV. When his wife retired, they moved to Fortson, GA in 2014. He graduated from the University of Toledo and was a lifetime fan of The Ohio State University teams.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at the Woodbine-Hickory Chapel, 5852 Nolensville Rd, Nashville, TN 37211. There will be a visitation from 5 - 7 PM with a service at 7pm on Tuesday and private interment will be at Nolensville Cemetery on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at 10 am.
