James Edward Dykes

James Edward Dykes, 82, of Columbus, GA died Friday, January 8, 2021 at Columbus Hospice House.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, January 14, 2021 at Beallwood Baptist Church, 4650 Veterans Pkwy, Columbus, GA 31904, with Brother Billy Duncan officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 AM at the church according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.  Interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery following the service. In keeping with the efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19, face coverings and social distancing will be required during the funeral service, visitation and interment.

James was born July 4, 1938 in Lewisville, AL to the late Robert James Dykes and Euva Arrington Dykes. He worked in maintenance at Swift Mills for 45 years. He was a member of Beallwood Baptist Church and stayed very active in all aspects of the church. Other than his parents he is preceded in death by his son, Darryl Wayne Dykes, siblings, Virginia Elouise Dykes Owen, Robert Hayward Dykes, Annie Ray Dykes Townsend and Ronald Dykes.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Evelyn Allen Dykes of Columbus, GA, son, David Edward Dykes (Renee) of Upatoi, GA, sister, Sandra Dykes of Hurtsboro, AL, brother, Don Dykes of Clayton, AL, grandchildren, Bradley Wayne Dykes (Melissa) and their children, Angelo, Mackenna, Avery and Jaxon all of Jacksonville, NC, April Marie Dykes Hiscox (Aaron) and their children, Evie and Levi all of Salem, AL.
