Mr. Hamm was born September 02, 1927, in Headland, AL, and was son of the late Mose Leonard Hamm, Sr. and Quillie Snellgrove Hamm of Headland, AL. A proud World War II Navy veteran, Mr. Hamm was a long-time Columbus resident and was a member of Beallwood Baptist Church. He was a long-distance truck driver for 36 years and though he officially retired from Colonial Baking Company in the mid 1980's, he continued working until the age of 81. Perhaps the only characteristics stronger than his integrity and work ethic were his sense of humor and joyful spirit. He loved life and celebrated each day with family and friends.
Other than his parents, two sisters, Edna Hamm Gifford and Agnes Hamm Watson; and two brothers, Mose Leonard Hamm, Jr. and Henry B. (Buddy) Hamm, preceded Mr. Hamm in death.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Mavis F. Hamm; three daughters, Teddie Ussery and husband, Mike, of Columbus, GA; Angela Grissett and husband, Thomas, of Columbus, GA; and Penny L. Elkins and husband, Jason, of Dacula, GA; two granddaughters, Lindsay Urquhart of Columbus, and Jenna Belew and husband, Justin, of Columbus; one great grandson, Brooks Michael Urquhart of Columbus; four sisters, Nelle Ward, Abbeville, AL; Martha Klemptner and husband, Norbert, of San Antonio, TX; Sandra Johnson and husband, Robert, of Valdosta, GA; Catherine Fennell of Midland City, AL; one brother, Edsel Hamm and wife, Pauline, of Webb, AL; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the caregivers who have served our mom and dad with grace and love: Pat McCoy, Doris Walker, Nestine Brooks, Anissa Averette, and Home Care Services of Columbus.
