James Edward Slaughter, 86, of Fortson, GA lost his fight with ALS on Thursday, September 8, 2016.
James was born October 21, 1929 to Thomas Edward and Doris McMichael Slaughter. He graduated Jordon Vocational High School in 1947. He was in the US Army Air Corps/Air Force from 1948 thru 1959. He was an Air Traffic Controller with the Federal Aviation Administration from 1960 thru 1987. He worked as a Flight Instructor for Gray Air Service in Albany until 1992.
He was a member of the Albany and Columbus Racing Pigeon Clubs. He was recognized by the American Racing Pigeon Union for outstanding dedication to the sport of Racing Pigeons. He won numerous prestigious awards including the Southeastern Open, and the International Federation Convention Race.
James was a member of Bigham Methodist Chapel, Fortson, Georgia. He enjoyed the care of Lynn Meharg of Columbus Hospice.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia, his brother, Byrl T Slaughter of Columbus, GA, his daughter, Sandra D‘Ann Everett and her husband, Tony, granddaughter, Jessi Everett of Leesburg, GA, grandson, Andrew Everett of Augusta, GA, nephew, Stephen Slaughter (Jennifer) of Columbus, GA.
Jim had been enjoyed and honored by his friends and family during his life. They have memorialized and mourned with him during his illness so there will be no services.
