Jefferson "Jeff" Davis Coleman, Jr.

July 6, 1943 — October 4, 2022

Jefferson Davis Coleman Jr. of Columbus, Georgia died on Tuesday October 4th, 2022 in the presence of his wife, Susan Coleman, at Piedmont Midtown Hospital.

Jeff was one of five children born to Jefferson Davis Coleman Sr. and Helen Dye Coleman on July 6th, 1943. Longtime residents of Columbus, Georgia, Jeff graduated from Jordan High School Class of 1961. He went on to graduate from Columbus College with a degree in Criminal Justice. Following his schooling Jeff worked at the Ledger Enquirer and Colonial Baking Company until he enlisted in the U.S. Army. Jeff was stationed in Bien Hoa during the Vietnam War where he served as a door gunner. He then joined the Columbus Police Department in 1967, retiring in 1998 as a Captain after serving thirty-two years.

Jeff thoroughly appreciated life. He loved cars, motorcycles, boats, and planes. Jeff was on the motor squad of the CPD, attended Daytona Bike Rallies for forty-three years, had his pilot’s license, and owned an airplane. Jeff could be found riding his tractor on his property, building bonfires, and spending time with his family and beloved bloodhound, Buddy.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Barrett Coleman, his children, Cathryn Weber (Horst) and Jefferson Davis (JD) Coleman III (Kristen), his stepchildren, Shane, Blake, and Sage Konans, and his grandchildren, Madaleigh, Coleman, and Scarlett Weber, and Calyn Ann Coleman and Jefferson Davis Coleman IV.

Jeff’s family and friends plan to gather to celebrate his life at a memorial celebration on Sunday October 9th, at eleven in the morning, at The Hangout on Veterans Parkway in Columbus, Georgia.
