Jerry Douglas Elliott passed away Sunday, December 8, 2019 at Piedmont Hospital surrounded by his family.
Funeral services with Masonic Rites and Military Honors will be held 2:00 PM Thursday December 12, 2019 at the chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory with Dr. Tommy Henschell officiating.
He was born March 2, 1940 in Clermont, Florida, the son of Ivie Whit Elliott, Sr and Myrtle Sloan Elliott.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Ivie Whit Elliott, Jr and his wife of 42 years, Faye Doan Elliott.
A United States Veteran, he served as a Staff Seargent for the US Army in Germany and the United States from 1959- 1968 and was awarded the National Defense Medal for his service. He also served as a member of the Alabama National Guard from 1977 - 1979.
Jerry joined the Columbus Police Department in 1967 where he was a patrolman until 1971 and then went to work for BellSouth until his retirement in 1997.
Jerry became a Mason in 1989 and was a member of the Mt Hermon Lodge. He became a 32nd degree in the Scottish Rite at the Valley of Columbus. He was also a member of the Al Sihah Shriners where he was involved with the Rat Pack and the Royal Order of Jesters of the Columbus- Fort Benning Shrine Club where he served as President in 1997 and 2005. He had a huge heart for the children and made over 100 trips transporting children to and from the hospitals as a Road Runner.
He lived a full and happy life.
He leaves behind several nieces, a nephew, great nieces and nephews and many friends.
