Jerry M. Fountain

Jerry M. Fountain 66, of Columbus, Georgia died Friday, December 25, 2020 at St. Francis Hospital.

A Celebration of Life with Fireman Honors will be held 4:00 PM Monday, December 28, 2020 at Northside Baptist Church 959 54th Street Columbus, Georgia 31904. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 PM Monday at the church. In keeping with the efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19, facemasks and social distancing will be required for those attending the visitation and service.

Jerry was born July 28, 1954 in Columbus, Georgia son of the late Rev. Buford Earl and Barbara Jean Brock Fountain. Jerry was the 1972 graduate of Jordan High School and received a Masters Degree in Fire Service Management from Troy University. He retired after 30 years of service as an Assistant Chief of the Columbus Fire and EMS and served as the Homeland Security Director and was a certified EMT, Hazardous Material Instructor and Certified Emergency Management Director.

Jerry was a member of Gentian Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Director. Jerry loved singing and playing the guitar with his brothers and coached Little League baseball, football and Babe Ruth. He also enjoyed driving senior adults from various churches within the community.

Other than his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his brother Mike Fountain.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Nancy C. Fountain of Columbus, Georgia, son, Nicky Wayne Fountain of Mobile, Alabama, brothers, Tommy and Dianne Fountain of Monroe, Ga., Mark and Lisa Fountain of Columbus, Georgia, sister, Cindy Fountain Hutto of Columbus, Georgia and his two granddaughters, Shelby Fountain of Columbus, Georgia and Elizabeth Carrico of Peachtree City, Georgia.
