Joe Biggers Blackmon, 77, of Columbus, GA died Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at Magnolia Manor Nursing Home.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Friday, April 28, 2017 at the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907 with Rev. Chuck Hasty officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
Mr. Blackmon was born September 18, 1939 in Columbus, GA son of the late Joseph Walter Blackmon and Bright Bickerstaff Blackmon. He attended Wynnton School, Columbus High School, and the University of Georgia. Joe will be remembered for his love of people, the outdoors, and his generous spirit.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Blackmon Kinnett.
Survivors include his children, Bardie Blackmon Brady (Rem), Joe Biggers Blackmon, Jr., Sidney Dykes Blackmon (Meghan), former wife, Etta Dykes Blackmon, grandchildren, McKenney Spence (Matt), Rem Brady, Lawson Brady, Bright Blackmon, Bo Blackmon and Loulie Blackmon, and great grandchildren, Brady Spence and Cannon Spence.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to PAWS Humane or a charity of your choice.
