Joe Baum Price, 82, of Columbus, Georgia died Wednesday, August 17, 2016 peacefully at this home following a lengthy illness.
A celebration of Life for those wishing to attend will be held on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Chattahoochee River Club 1100 Bay Ave. Columbus, GA 31901 according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Mr. Price, son of the late Joseph Baum Price and Lerlein Annette Still price, was born on November 14, 1933 in Newton, Mississippi. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Madeline Price Mossawir, his brother-in-law, Harvey Mossawir, Sr. and his nephew, Harvey Mossawir, Jr. He is survived by his great nieces, Christine Mossawir Alameddine and Karen Mossawir Lepke, both of California and his beloved cat, Isaiah. He received a Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Southern Mississippi, a Master of Music from Mississippi State University and a Specialist degree in Music from Auburn University. He was an accomplished band director for several schools throughout his career to include Port Charles, Indianola and Tupelo High Schools in Mississippi and at Marion County High, Jordan High and Shaw High Schools in Georgia.
He was a member of the Georgia Music Educators Association, Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. He served as the Band Director of Jordan High School for 22 years before his retirement. Under the directionship of Mr. Price, the Jordan High School band played in the inaugural parade for President Nixon. He was very proud to have authored the words and music to the Jordan High School fight song. While a band director at Jordan High School, Mr. Price was nominated as Star Teacher on several occasions. Upon his retirement from the Muscogee County School System, he wrote a number of newspaper articles as a theatre critic for the Springer Opera House, a music critic for the Columbus Symphony Orchestra and even a local food critic. He is remembered as a true renaissance man with a love for music, art, theater, and world history.
