SFC (Ret.) John Curtis Couch, 81, of Columbus, GA, died Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Gentiva Hospice.
Funeral Services with Full Military Honors will be held 1:00 PM, Friday, June 9, 2017 at the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907 with Rev. David Hartwell officiating. Interment will be held at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5:00-7:00 PM at the funeral home.
SFC (Ret.) Couch was born June 24, 1935 in Forsyth, GA, son of the late Hiarm Edward Couch and Lucille Cooper Couch. He retired from the United States Army on February 1, 1975 while stationed at Fort Gordon, Georgia. He completed tours of duty at Fort Campbell, KY, Fort Lewis, WA, multiple tours in Germany and deployments to Vietnam and Korea. SFC (Ret.) Couch received the Good Conduct Medal (5th Award), Army Commendation Medal (1st OLC), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea), National Defense Service Medal, 2 O/S Bars, Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal and Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm. He was a member of Gentian Baptist Church for 18 years and served as a Deacon.
Survivors include his wife, Ursula G. Couch of Columbus, GA; daughter, Elviva Harris of Fayetteville, GA; grandchild, John W. Harris, Jr.; sister, Martha Jean Bynum (Bill Sr.) of Macon, GA.
