O'Neal
June 11, 1942 – June 14, 2026
John Douglas “Doug” O’Neal, Jr. 84, of Columbus, Georgia, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2026, just three days after celebrating his birthday.
Born on June 11, 1942, in Columbus, Georgia, Doug was a lifelong resident of the community he loved. A proud veteran of the United States Army, he carried the values of hard work, dedication, and perseverance throughout his life. An entrepreneur and businessman, Doug owned and operated several successful businesses over the years. His strong work ethic never faded, and he continued working until just a few weeks before his passing.
While Doug was known for his business accomplishments, those who knew him best will remember him most for the relationships he cherished. He loved spending time with his family and took great joy in staying connected with those he cared about. He also treasured the friendships he built over the years, especially the group of friends with whom he shared breakfast and conversation each morning. Those gatherings were among the simple pleasures that brought him happiness and reflected the importance he placed on friendship and community.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, John Douglas O’Neal, Sr and Willine Knowles O’Neal.
He is survived by his sister, Gail O’Neal Kent; his nephew, Lewis O’Neal Kent (Lori); his great-nieces, Lauren Augusta Kent and Juliana Knowles Kent; and his great-nephew, Ty Thornton. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In accordance with Doug’s wishes, no public memorial service will be held. His family will gather for a small private ceremony to honor and celebrate his life.
For those who wish to honor Doug’s memory, the family requests that donations be made to Columbus Hospice, whose care and compassion are deeply appreciated.
Doug’s life was marked by determination, loyalty, and a genuine appreciation for the people around him. His legacy will live on in the memories shared by family and friends, and in the lasting impact he made on the lives of those who knew and loved him.
