John Adley Posey, age 72, of Columbus, Georgia passed away on Monday, May 25, 2026.

A visitation for family and friends will be held Friday, May 29, 2026 at 10:00 AM at Evangel Church, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11:00 AM. McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory is handling the arrangements.

John was born in Columbus, Georgia on March 30, 1954. He was the son of Jerry John Posey and Sally Geiger Posey-Brinkley and was raised deeply rooted in faith and family. John carried those same values throughout his life. He loved his family dearly, treasured lifelong friendships, and was known for his kindness, random knowledge, and level-headedness.

A graduate of Hardaway High School, John later attended Young Harris College and Georgia Southern University. He spent many years working faithfully as an IT professional at Synovus before retiring. Some of his most cherished memories and life-changing experiences occurred on the many international trips with the MAPS ministry of Evangel. John also faithfully served every Sunday as part of the security team for the eKIDS children’s ministry, a role he cared deeply about.

John was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Posey; his mother, Sally Posey Brinkley; and his stepfather, The Honorable Jack T. Brinkley.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 47 years, Paula Spencer Posey; his children, Chris Posey of Tifton, Georgia, Sarah (Patrick) Reeves of Columbus, Georgia, and Rachel Posey of Columbus, Georgia; and his beloved grandchildren, Connor (Zowie) Reeves, Livia Posey, Lana Reeves, Anna Kate Reeves, and Breelyn Reeves. He was especially excited about the soon arrival of his first great-grandson in August.

He also leaves behind his siblings, Cindy (David) and Paul (Helen); his aunt, Adleyn Scott; his brother-in-law, Steve Spencer; many nieces and nephews; cousins; and countless dear friends and extended family members who will cherish his memory for years to come.

John loved gardening, farming, traveling, delicious food (healthy, of course), and especially spending time with his grandchildren. He loved listening to worship music and was deeply encouraged by messages that strengthened his faith. He had a heart for people and a gift for finding small things to talk about, then following up with a text or call that made others feel seen and connected. Friends and family could always count on receiving a text or YouTube video from John whether it was a powerful sermon that had encouraged him or a funny joke he thought someone else needed to hear.

John came from a family of gatherers, and he continued that legacy well. He loved being surrounded by the people he cared about most. Whether sharing stories, laughter, meals, music, or simply time together, John made people feel welcomed and valued. His life was marked by faith, wisdom, and love for others.

His family and friends will remember his strength, his heart for people, and the lasting impact he made on those around him. What a legacy he leaves behind.
