Larry Flatt passed away on September 25, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on September 10, 1947, Larry graduated from Baker High School in 1966. That same year, he joined the United States Air Force, serving four years, including a deployment to Thailand. After completing his military service, he began a long career with Norfolk Southern Railroad, where he worked for 33 years before retiring in 2010.Larry was loud, full of personality, and never missed a chance to share a joke or a story. His boisterous spirit filled every room he entered, and his love for his family ran deep. He was famously late to everything — a trait so characteristic that it became something people remembered fondly. He enjoyed gemstones and lapidary, finding joy in the patient craft of shaping each stone. He and his wife, Alice, shared 19 years of marriage. 

He is survived by his wife, Alice Flatt; his daughter, Megan Anthony (Casey); his grandchild, Arden Anthony; and his siblings: Curtis Flatt, Richard Flatt (Joy), Carolyn Flatt Polk, Warren Flatt (Laura), and Kathy Jackson (Ronnie). He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews. Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Twitchell Flatt; his father, Milton Donald Flatt; his sister, Jean Flatt Nelson Allensworth Merrell; and his brother‑in‑law, Peter Polk. 

Family and friends are invited to gather for a viewing on October 2, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus, Georgia. A funeral service will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the same location. Burial will take place at 1:30 p.m. EST at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery for those who wish to attend. Larry will be remembered for his lively personality that will be greatly missed, his service to his country, his work, and his deep love for his family.
