Lawrence E. "Sonny" Benton

Lawrence Edward “Sonny” Benton 80, of Pittsview, Alabama died Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at Columbus Hospice House.

The family will receive friends Monday, October 10, 2022 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, Ga. 31907. A private interment will be held in Parkhill Cemetery.

Sonny was born August 04, 1942 in Columbus, Georgia son of the late Homer Lawrence and Annie R. Wood Benton. He was a graduate of Baker High School and the owner of Benton Paint and Wall Covering. Sonny always enjoyed working and made work fun. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, dirt track racing, deer hunting and going to Cafe 431 every morning and getting his “Sonny Special”.

Other than his parents, Sonny was preceded in death by his wife Diane Benton and his sister Thelma Hatmaker.

Survivors include his son Michael Benton and his girlfriend Becky Howell both of Pittsview, AL., brother, Gary Benton of Cusseta, GA., nieces and nephews, India Sizemore of Cusseta, GA., Scarlet Sizemore of Cusseta, GA., Sandra Miller of TN., Lawrence Yon of Atlanta, GA., Bill Brett of Atlanta, GA., Frank Hatmaker of Atlanta, GA.
