Linda Simmons-Mayberry, 73, of Columbus GA, died Monday, December 21, 2020 at her residence.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, January 2, 2021 in the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Tyler Merrell officiating. The family will receive friends before the service from 2:00-3:00 PM at the funeral home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907. A private interment will be held at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. In keeping with the efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19, face coverings and social distancing will be required during the funeral service and visitation.
Linda was born February 22, 1947 in Atlanta, GA to the late James Edward Floyd and Mandy Virginia Brown Floyd. She was a manager for Pratt and Whitney in the 90’s.She was currently driving for Lyft, with many loyal customers. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Phenix City, AL and a past member of Southside Baptist Church. She worked with the homeless and ministered to them, delivered food every Thursday with the help of Golden Donuts, Pizza Pronto, and Inglesia Penecostal. She won the Humanitarian Award one year for her community service and worked in the Outreach program for the Salvation Army and Valley Rescue Mission. She loved helping the Community in any way she could and loved to share her stories about it. She was the ultimate storyteller, full of theatrics and playful banter. She was a cancer survivor; lively even in those battles, she would light up a room. She loved beautiful smells and was very fashionable. She possessed a razor-sharp wit and had a knack for helping people work through personal issues. Other than her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Lee Mayberry; brother, James Edward Floyd, Jr.; daughter, Norma Fair; and grandson, Elijah Parker.
She is survived by her daughters Amanda B. Rogers of Phenix City, AL, Charline Parker-Bregartner (Louis) of Opelika, AL, Sarah Bryan of Columbus, GA, son, Jeremy Simmons of Chicago, IL, siblings, Ethel Delp of Anniston, Al, Joe Floyd (Lydia) of Woodland, AL, Ralph Floyd (Karen) of Westminster, S C, grandchildren, Cameron Parker, Jessica Thetford, and Josiah Simmons, Great-grandchildren, Naje Thetford, Jeland Thetford, and Javez Sanks, adopted children, Vicki Everett, Marlena Spivey, and Marla Arrington.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to any Homeless Shelter of your choosing in the name of Linda Simmons-Mayberry.
