Margaret Horne Jones

Margaret Horne Jones departed this life in her home on Wednesday evening, October 18th, 2017. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, R.G. Jones, Jr.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 21, 2017 at the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907. A private interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10:00-11:00 AM at the funeral home.
Mrs. Jones was born in Tallassee, Alabama on September 10, 1920 to James A. Horne and Louella Hornsby Horne. Born into a large family, she was 14 years old when her father died, leaving her and her older sisters to provide for her ailing mother and five younger siblings, all of whom went on to successful lives.
She retired after many years with Southern Bell Telephone Company and was a member of the Rose Hill United Methodist Church and had been active in the Valley Rescue Mission Auxiliary and was an avid gardener. Margaret had spent countless volunteer hours working with the elderly and infirmed. Also preceding her in death were sisters, Peggy McHargue, Nell Smith, Frances Cooper and Martha (Ginger) Horne; and brothers, Ray Horne and Charlie Horne.
She is survived by a brother, James Horne of Prattville, AL; a son, Bobby Jones of Columbus, GA; a daughter, Betsy Jones-Golden of Seale, AL; granddaughters, Christy Golden and husband John Spurlock, Allison Blakely Barron of Colorado Springs, CO and her husband, Dean and great-grandchildren, Sarah Spurlock Frazier and husband Jesse Frazier, Isobel Spurlock and Silas Spurlock.
