Margaret Kemp Parker, 96, of Columbus, GA, passed away Monday, January 4, 2016, at her daughter's home in Columbus, GA.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Thursday, January 7, 2016, at Geneva Baptist Church, with Rev. Lynn McManious officiating assisted by Chaplain Allison Owen. Visitation will be 2:00 PM prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow the service at Geneva Cemetery according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Mrs. Parker was born September 14, 1919, in Chattahoochee County, daughter of the late William Homer Kemp and Cassie Culpepper Kemp. Upon graduating from high school in Cusseta, GA, Mrs. Parker attended Georgia Southwestern College and then earned a B.A. degree in Elementary Education from the University of Georgia. As a dedicated elementary school teacher for 40 years, Mrs. Parker touched many lives and was loved by all. Her classroom passions were history and English. She served on the Talbot County Board of Human Services for many years and was a member of Geneva Baptist Church for 68 years, volunteering her time in various ways. She enjoyed being surrounded by loved ones at family reunions, in addition to cooking, traveling, and playing trivia.
Along with her parents, Mrs. Parker is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, J.D. Parker, her loving son William Kemp Parker, five sisters and six brothers.
Survivors include her daughter, Margaret Parker Johnston and her husband Will; two grandchildren, Leigh Johnston and Parker Johnston; a great granddaughter, Ava Treilobs and numerous nieces and nephews.
