Margaret P. Tilley, 91 of Columbus passed away at her home on Monday, May 29th.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Trinity Episcopal Church with Rev. Father Timothy H. Graham officiating. A private interment will be held. The family will receive friends following the services at the church according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus.

Marge grew up in Barrington, Illinois and was the middle daughter of Loring Platt and Elizabeth Metz Platt. Marge was a talented artist who worked in several different mediums including watercolor, acrylic and encaustic. She studied at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Academy of Fine Arts in Chicago, the Colorado Spring Fine Arts Center, Colorado College at Colorado Springs, and the Art Students League in New York. She met her husband, Augustus Wright Tilley, while in Colorado and after a brief time in New York City, they returned to his hometown of Parrott, GA., before settling in Columbus, GA in 1968.

Marge's work is internationally collected privately and by corporations. Additionally, her work is owned by The Columbus Museum of Art, the Mississippi Museum of Art in Jackson, MS, and the Hunter Museum in Chattanooga, TN. Marge taught art at the museum starting in 1972 and then privately to adults in her Tuesday Morning Art Class. She loved painting, teaching and learning with many artists and friends over the years and she truly loved her Tuesday class.

She was preceded in death by her husband Augustus Wright Tilley and her sister Patricia Nowell.

She is survived by her son Loring Wright Tilley and daughter-in-law Tracy Ward Tilley of Boone, NC, her sister Shirley P. Randall of Columbus, GA, two grandchildren John Ward Tilley and Elizabeth Marie Tilley whom she loved dearly and other nieces, nephews and cousins. Her family extended well beyond traditional blood relatives and included Ashley, John, Collie, Ben, and Dorothy Holt, Dr. Julia Ashley, Bill and Liddy Foss, Miriam Eve Tidwell and many others who loved, supported, entertained and cared for her.

Marge loved painting, cooking, gardening, weekly bridge games, and experiencing new people, places and things.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Wynn House in Columbus GA or the National Museum of Women in Arts in Washington, DC.
