Martha Penelope “Penny” Vick, 78, of Columbus, GA passed away on Wednesday June 11, 2025.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, June 16, 2025 at Parkhill Cemetery 4161 Macon Rd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Penny was born April 7, 1947 in Columbus, Georgia to the late V.V.Vick and Atelia Abell Vick.Penny attended Greenbriar College in Lewisburg, West Virginia where she studied piano, dance, and voice. She performed for one year with Up with People, singing songs across Europe, before returning to Columbus and working in the family business, V.V. Vick Jewelry Store.The store was founded in 1929 with its early roots on 12th Street and Broadway before moving to Cross Country Plaza and later The Landings. Penny began her career by wrapping gifts and later, leveraging her creative nature, became an accomplished engraver. She owned and operated the store until her retirement in 2017. During the 87 years the store was open, the Vick family had many dedicated customers who also became lifelong friends.She was an avid lover of all animals and always had her Scottish terrier by her side.
Penny is survived by her son, William Laws Calley, III of Williamsburg,VA.; a sister: Rebecca Vick Glover (Howard C Glover III), nephews Howard C Glover IV and Richard Trapnell Glover, grandniece Sophia Doll Glover all of Lookout Mountain and grandnephews Richard Gates Glover and Parks Eiselstin Glover of Johnson City, Tennessee; and her loyal friends Jerrie Tinkler of Columbus, GA and Beth Lumb of Huntsville, AL.
