Mary Evelyn Blalock, 89, passed peacefully from this world into the arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ. Though our hearts grieve deeply at her absence, we rejoice in the hope of Heaven and the promise that “to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:8).

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM, Tuesday, August 26, 2025 in the chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.

Mary Evelyn was a beloved mother, grandmother—affectionately known as “Mammoma”—and a faithful friend to countless people who loved her dearly. She lived a full and beautiful life, defined not by earthly riches but by the richness of her love, faith, and devotion to her family and her Savior.

Nothing brought her greater joy than to have her children and grandchildren gathered around laughing, sharing stories, and making memories together. She had a way of making everyone feel loved and important. Her family will carry that love with them forever.

Mary Evelyn had many joys in life. She loved shopping, especially thrifting and finding the best deals. She also loved to crochet, and it was rare to see her without a crochet needle in her hand. Many family members and friends treasure the afghans, beanies, baby blankets and other works of art she made with such care. She also had a sweet tooth and was famous for always having candy and snacks. But her favorite was oatmeal cream pies which held the top spot in her heart.

Mary Evelyn loved to cook and bake. She poured her love into everything she prepared. She was especially known for Sunday afternoon and Holiday dinners which will be remembered not just for its taste but for the joy of sharing it with family and friends.

But above all, Mary Evelyn loved Jesus. Her faith was the anchor of her life and the legacy she leaves behind. She was truly the definition of a faithful servant of Christ. She lived out Proverbs 31:25–26: She was a prayer warrior, a woman of unwavering faith, and a living testimony of God’s goodness. Her family and friends often leaned on her for wisdom, encouragement, and prayers.

Mary Evelyn loved hard and was deeply loved in return. To know her was to love her. Her warmth, kindness, laughter, and steadfast faith will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She leaves behind a family who will miss her greatly but who are comforted by the promise of John 14:2–3, where Jesus says, “In My Father’s house are many mansions…"

Mary Evelyn Blalock lived a life that honored God, blessed her family, and inspired all who knew her. Her story is one of love, faith, and devotion—a life well lived, a race well run, and a crown of righteousness now received (2 Timothy 4:7–8). Though she has departed this earth, her legacy will continue in the lives she touched and the generations she shaped.

Other than her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Porter Murphy; grandson, Joshua Whitehead; and great-great granddaughter, Tatum Faver.

Mary is survived by daughters, Carol Miller of Panama City Beach, FL, Melisa Daniel (Perry) of Valley, AL, Teresa Wing (Larry) of Columbus, GA; son, Glen Blalock (Lisa) of Lynchburg, TN; step-son, Dale Blalock (Gail) of Columbus, GA; brother, Larry Murphy (Sandra) of Gould, AR; grandchildren, Jennifer Smith, Jessica Blalock, Victoria Blalock, James Burns, Jarred Burns, Ethan Whitehead, Cody Wing, and Heather Ortegon, step-grandson, Jeremy Blalock; step-granddaughter, Amanda Renfroe; along with 14 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
