Mary Nell Jacobs Messer

Mary Nell Jacobs Messer, 93, of Columbus, GA died, July 8, 2021 at her residence.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, July 12, 2021 in the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Haynes Martin officiating. The family will receive friend from 1:00-2:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA. Interment will be held at Riverdale Cemetery.

Nell was born March 5, 1928 in Muscogee County, GA to the late Wiley J. and Lola Mae Jacobs. She was a homemaker, always very active in her children’s lives. She loved being a room mother, PTA officer, Cub Scout den mother and Girl Scout volunteer. She was a founding member of Sherwood United Methodist Church where she served on numerous committees and boards. She later joined Living Grace United Methodist Church. She was known as an avid SEC football fan, most notably Auburn, loved NASCAR racing and the Atlanta Braves.  Other than her parents she is preceded in death by her husband M. Marvin Messer, Jr., husband, Carl A. Pierson, Jr., siblings, Marvin M. Jacobs, Bethural Jacobs Holloway and Eldora Jacobs Goodson.

She is survived by her children, Ronald C. Pierson (Debbie), Carla Pierson Kirby (Bill), David W. Pierson (Melinda), sister, Merle Jacobs Groman, grandchildren, Thomas C. Pierson (Amy), Janice L.  Braman (Patrick), Charles F. Kirby (Courtney), great-grandchildren, Jonathan Pierson, Drew Braman, Alex Braman, Austin Braman, numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.
