Melanie Paige Hart, age 43, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2026, in Columbus, Georgia. She was born on February 10, 1983, in Owensboro, Kentucky. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at Wynnton Methodist Church, 2412 Wynnton Road, Columbus, Georgia. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church.

Melanie was a gifted teacher whose greatest gift was her ability to make people feel seen, valued, and loved. Throughout her teaching career at Hannah Magnet Academy and Reese Road Leadership Academy, she formed lasting relationships with countless students and their parents. Her influence reached far beyond the classroom, and the love and encouragement she gave to her students will remain a part of their lives for years to come.

Melanie had a special love for animals and was particularly devoted to dogs. She generously volunteered as a foster with Animal SOS, opening her home and heart to many dogs in need. Her compassion extended to every creature entrusted to her care.

But of all the roles Melanie held in her life, the one she was most proud of was being Mom to her twins, Paul Edward and Lucile Grace Hart. Paul and Lucy were the center of her world and her greatest joy. She encouraged them always to be their best, believed deeply in their abilities, and worked tirelessly to provide them with opportunities to discover their gifts and follow their dreams. Her love for them was fierce, unconditional, and unwavering.

Melanie was the daughter of Joanna and Ronnie Culbreth and Michael Owen. She was a beloved big sister to Sara Denes (Gabe), Brian Owen (Chelsea), Stephen Owen (Theresa), and Cameron Owen (Miranda). She treasured her family and the relationships she shared with each of them.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Harris, Mr. and Mrs. O.C. Owen, and Mr. and Mrs. Max Culbreth, as well as her beloved nephew, Gabriel Max Denes.

Melanie is survived by her beloved children, Paul Edward Hart and Lucile Grace Hart; her parents, Joanna and Ronnie Culbreth and Michael Owen; her siblings and their families, Sara Denes (Gabe), Brian Owen (Chelsea), Stephen Owen (Theresa), and Cameron Owen(Miranda); and a wide circle of family, friends, former students, parents, and others whose lives were touched by her kindness.

Melanie’s life was one of love, compassion, teaching, and devotion. She gave generously of herself—to her children, her family, her students, and the animals she cared for. Her greatest legacy will not be measured by accomplishments or titles, but by the people who are better, stronger, and more loved because she was part of their lives.

Above all, Melanie was Mom. Paul and Lucy were her heart, her joy, and the legacy of love she leaves behind.

She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
