Michael Ray Howard

Michael Ray Howard was born on May 16, 1976, in Columbus, GA, the son of the late Karen (Peavy) Howard and Ray Howard. From an early age, Mike carried with him a quiet strength, a generous spirit, and a love for life’s simple joys.

For 28 years, Mike dedicated his career to TSYS in Columbus, GA, where he served in many roles and formed friendships that felt more like family. His coworkers knew him as dependable, genuine, and always willing to lend support, or share in the jokes and laughter.

Mike’s greatest passions were rooted in the outdoors and in the people he loved. He found peace in nature - hunting and fishing of every kind. He also carried a lifelong love for baseball. Whether playing, talking stats, or helping coach the next generation, Mike found joy in the game’s camaraderie and competitiveness. Coaching brought out the very best in him - patience, encouragement, and his excitement for kids to grow in skill and confidence. Even beyond baseball, if kids were nearby, Mike would be the first to start a game or simply make them feel seen and welcome.

Above all, Mike was devoted to his family and friends. He lived his life with a steady moral compass, always striving to do the right thing. He had a natural gift for connecting with others, as he was the kind of person everyone felt comfortable around - easy to talk to, supportive, loyal, and deeply genuine. His impact on the lives of those who knew him is immeasurable, and the void left by his absence is felt profoundly.

He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, integrity, laughter, and love - a legacy that will continue to live on in the many lives he touched. Mike will be missed beyond words, but remembered with gratitude by all who had the privilege to know him.

Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Renee Howard of Ellerslie, GA; son Will (Emma) of Ellerslie; father Ray Howard of Waverly Hall, GA; two brothers, Matt (Erica) of Ellerslie and Mark of Waverly Hall; five nieces, three nephews, and many “extended family members” at TSYS and Piedmont.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, December 11, 2025 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel at McMullen Funeral Home in Columbus with Doctor Steve Stewart officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Wednesday evening, December 10, 2025 at McMullen. Graveside services will be held at Parkhill Cemetery following the funeral.
