Norma Jean Mitchell, 79, of Columbus, GA died Sunday, March 05, 2017 at her residence.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00pm on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus, GA 31907, with Rev. Willie Martin officiating. Mrs. Mitchell's nephews will serve as active pallbearers. Interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 07, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00pm at the funeral home.
Mrs. Mitchell was born September 12, 1937 in Slocomb, AL daughter of the late Christopher Butler and Matilda Reader Butler. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Foster Wesley Mitchell after 36 years of marriage.
Mrs. Mitchell was an active member of the First Free Will Baptist Church and had retired from Dolly Madison working in Accounts Payable. After retiring she began a new career, working at H & R Block where she enjoyed helping others. Mrs. Mitchell enjoyed her family and friends deeply. She will also be remembered as a loving and devoted caregiver for the many years she cared for her late husband, Mr. Mitchell.
Survivors include her three sons, Tony (Dee) Mitchell, Midland, GA, Bobby (Tammy) Mitchell, Columbus, GA and Thomas (Sharon) Mitchell, Chattanooga, TN; one sister, Flora M. Coker, Dothan, AL; six grandchildren, Jeffrey (Crystal) Dale, Sarah (Howard) Cordell, Joshua (Rebekah) Mitchell, Brittany Mitchell, Garrett (Melissa) Mitchell and Lauren Mitchell; four great-grandchildren, Aubrey Alexander, Sydney Dale, Elizabeth Cordell and Caleb Mitchell; several nieces and nephews also survive.
