Pat was a friend to everyone she met and could easily be described as someone who would find the need and meet the need.
Patricia Margarum was born Patricia Cooper in Ellenville, NY on August 22, 1950 and passed away peacefully in Columbus, GA on July 2, 2026. Pat was survived by her husband Larry Margarum Sr. and four children, Linda Lawrence, Larry Margarum Jr., Rachael Ackley, and Jimmy Margarum. Pat was predeceased by 3 grandchildren and survived by 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 5 siblings. Pat was born to Raymond Courtney Cooper and Mary Bertha Granger and grew up the youngest girl of 11 children. After attending Middletown H.S., she obtained her GED and began helping her mother take care of the other children in her home. A short time later, Pat met Larry Margarum and they were married after he completed his specialized training for the Army. While Larry was serving overseas in Vietnam, Pat enrolled in Cosmetology School and graduated with her certificate and state license and it was during this time their first child was born. After working at Whites Department Store as a Cosmetologist and after Larry returned from his overseas service, Pat and Larry had three more children and began to build a life in Middletown, NY. In 1976, Pat and Larry moved their young family to Columbus, GA and she spent the remainder of her life raising family, productively working and volunteering hours and hours of her time. Throughout her years in Columbus, Pat worked many jobs that helped support her family, sometimes multiple jobs at once. However, Pat's legacy will be most fondly remembered by the thousands of people she assisted over the years in their time of need. Pat was a friend to everyone she met and could easily be described as someone who would find the need and meet the need. It was common for Pat to provide in home care for those who were sick, elderly and dying before hospice was called. Pat was the first one in and the last one out when she became aware of anyone who was sick or needed special assistance of any kind. Pat also spent countless hours supporting those who struggled with emotional conflict and addiction. She was personally responsible for sponsoring as many as 60-80 people through Al-Anon over the course of 40 years. Pat will best be remembered by her family as a loving and caring wife, and as the mother and grandmother who was a matriarch, advisor, helper, care giver, inspiration, and glue that held her family together. Her children and grandchildren all credit her with being an inspiration to each of them in making a better life for themselves and those around them in addition to their personal faith in Jesus Christ. Pat was an active and faithful member of the Cornerstone Church of God for over 40 years. Sister Pat was a pillar of her church, always available to volunteer making sure that nothing the church asked of her was ever refused. Pat's commitment to her Lord and savior Jesus Christ was an inspiration to all who knew her and due to her commitment to the Lord, and her personal witness and testimony, she can be credited with bringing hundreds of lost souls to a personal faith in the saving grace of Jesus. We bid farewell, for now, to Pat Margarum; wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, sponsor, care giver, volunteer, inspiration and child of the living God. Remembered today as the one who found the need and met the need.
