Phillip David Thomas, 61, of Columbus, GA died Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at Columbus Hospice House.
A memorial service will be held 4:00 PM Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907 with Pastor Terry Robbins officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
Mr. Thomas was born April 8, 1958 in Columbus, GA son of the late Dale R. Thomas and Jeanette Catrett Thomas. Survivors include his loving sister, Sally Thomas Freeman (Donna), a brother Dale R. Thomas, Jr, niece Erica Pittman (Robert), an aunt Judy Bullard (Glen), great nephew Caleb Sexton.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his loving grandmother Sally Catrett and his brother Claude Thomas. He leaves behind a host of grieving cousins, family members, friends and co-workers who loved him.
When he was born, his grandmother gave him the nickname of Bimbo and it stuck with him for life, especially by his family. He was a gentle, loving man with a giving spirit. He always wanted to help anyone who was in need and often sacrificed his own needs to help others. While working at Hardee's he often took the food at the close of business that would normally be thrown away out on the street to give to the homeless people. He made an impact on many of the customers that he encountered with his smile and patience during his career. His co-workers were sad to see him leave Pensacola to come home two years ago. His management and co-workers at Circle K embraced him as "Mr. Phillip" and he found a new family in their love and support of him. He left his mark on many people in his life and was welcomed into the arms of the angels because of the goodness in his soul. He will be forever missed by his family but has been released from his suffering. So many people loved him and even more described him as the sweetest man. He left his mark on many, not just family.
