It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of CPT Raymond Jesse Keeler, U.S. Army (Retired). Raymond born on July 9, 1969, in Austin, Texas, passed away on June 22, 2025, in Columbus, Georgia. He will be remembered fondly for his quirky smile and his remarkable ability to put others first, highlighting a life dedicated to kindness and connection. Raymond was a genuinely welcoming individual who never met a stranger. His love for dogs was evident in how he shared his life with them, reflecting his compassionate spirit.

Known as “R.J.” by his family or “Ray” by his friends, proudly served his country with honor, dedication and distinction spanning a 26-year career having served in Iraq and Afghanistan. Ray earned a Bachelor’s degree in business management and achieved a fulfilling career alongside his dedication to family and community. Throughout his honorable service, he received the following decorations and citations: three Meritorious Service Medals, three Army Commendation Medals, Army Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, three Army Good Conduct Medals, two National Defense Service Medals, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal for service in Afghanistan, Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, and an Expert Marksmanship Badge with Rifle Bar. His commitment to service was further illustrated by earning the Ranger tab and the prestigious Special Forces tab, as well as numerous decorations for excellence and dedication.

In his personal life, Ray’s greatest pride was his daughter, Jessica Yves Keeler of Puyalllup, WA, whom he cherished deeply. He is also survived by, Brittney Bryan Keeler (spouse); his devoted mother, Fernanda Ramirez Keeler; his siblings, George Anthony Amaro and his wife, Eleanor, of Austin TX and Kandie Keeler Crider and her husband, Clay, of Austin, TX; Tammi Giglio of Easton, PA. He also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends who will miss him deeply.Together, they will honor the legacy of a man who touched the lives of so many.

Ray had diverse interests that included gardening, fishing, working out, and traveling. Ray was alsoa devoted Fighting Texas Aggie and loved everything Texas A&M. He bled maroon and proudly wore his Aggie gear around Georgia. He even had the cojones to fly his Texas A&M flag in Uga’s backyard. This was how Ray rolled.He will be remembered not only for his distinguished military service but also for the profound and lasting impact he made on everyone fortunate enough to know him. His legacy of dedication, love, and honor lives on in the hearts of his family, friends, and fellow veterans. He will also be cherished for his contagious smile and his infectious laugh that could brighten any room.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Raymond Keeler; his sister, Maria Rebecca Keeler; and his grandparents, Yves and Jesus Ramirez and Verba and John Keeler.

In celebrating Raymond's life, we hold dear the memories of his selfless nature, commitment to his family, and unwavering dedication to his country. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am EST, Wednesday July 2, 2025, graveside at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at 11:00am EST at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory and again before graveside service on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at 9:00am.
