Ora Rebecca Williams Cumbie was born on April 6, 1929 in Loachapoka, AL. As a young girl growing up in the country she loved being outdoors and was an avid horseback rider.
When she was a Senior at Auburn High School she met her husband, John Cumbie, (a Veteran World War II Combat Photographer) who was the yearbook photographer. When John took Rebecca's photo, he knew she was the one. They married on June 22, 1947.
Their first home was in Columbus, Georgia where they continued in the photography business specializing in weddings. It was also at that time that Rebecca worked with the Paratroopers at Fort Benning and became a licensed pilot. It was a dream and inspiration of hers to learn to fly some years after meeting the Tuskegee Airmen.
The family later moved to Mobile and Auburn, Alabama where they owned a truck stop and restaurant businesses.
After the passing of her husband Rebecca lived for the next eighteen years with her son, Donald. They enjoyed traveling through the U.S. and Europe.
She also enjoyed her visits with her daughter, Burney and husband, Jay, and their two sons, Jonathan and William in California, Alaska and Louisiana.
Rebecca enjoyed working in her yard and raising various animals. She had a wonderful personality and would charm many with her good stories.
