Richard Wayne Barker, born on July 8, 1941, in Adel, Georgia, departed this life on January 21, 2026, in Columbus, Georgia. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose life was characterized by deep love, generosity, and remarkable strength.

Richard's legacy is one of resilience and commitment, values he instilled in his family through his actions and example. He served his country honorably as a member of the Army, where he demonstrated the same dedication that he later applied to his role as a family man. He is survived by his loving family, which includes his son, John Steven Barker; his daughter-in-law, Kristin Barker; his granddaughter, Ashleigh Barker Langfitt and her husband, Terry Langfitt; his grandson, Steven Brendon Barker and his wife, Bri Middel; as well as his great-grandsons, Aaron Langfitt and Rowan Langfitt. Richard’s siblings, Joleita Atkinson and Barbara Anne Ray, also carry forward his spirit.

Richard was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Michelle Fleuret Barker; his parents, Martha Murphy Barker and Austin Barker; his brother, Billy Barker; and his sister, Janice Lassiter. Each of these individuals played a significant role in his life, and their memories will forever be a part of his legacy.

The visitation and memorial service to honor Richard Wayne Barker will be held on January 28, 2026, at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, located at 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus, GA. The visitation will take place from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by the memorial service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. These gatherings will offer an opportunity for family and friends to come together to share their love, support, and memories of a remarkable man who will be dearly missed.
