Robert Joseph (Bob) Spence 78, of Columbus, Georgia passed away Friday, August 27, 2020 at Piedmont Columbus Regional North Campus due to complications of COVID-19.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 4:00 PM Thursday, September 03, 2020 in the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory. A private interment will be held in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. The service will be livestreamed at 4:00 PM Thursday on our FACEBOOK page @mcmullenfuneralhome

Bob was born November 27, 1941 in Columbus, Georgia son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Spence. He spent his entire life in Columbus. He married JoAnn Meadows December 26, 1961 and together they had 3 children and 4 grand children.

Bob retired after 36 years as a Battalion Chief from the Columbus Fire Department in 1999. Most of his time with the department was spent in fire prevention.

He was a member of Bealwood Baptist Church and dedicated to the community through his involvement in various organizations like the Lions Club and the Washington D.C. Educational Tour.

He never met a stranger and always had a story.

Other than his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his wife JoAnn Meadows Spence, his son; Robert Joseph Spence Jr and daughter Cheryl (Spence) Wells.

Survivors include his daughter; Kristin Spence Pimental and her husband Eugene Pimental, grandchildren; Bradley S. Ritch, Britney C. Ritch, Kayla R. Pimental, and Ethan R. Pimental.
