Merle Cotton, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on May 9, 2025, in Columbus, Georgia, with her loved ones gathered around her. Born on May 19, 1937, in Abbeville, Alabama, Merle embraced life with kindness and warmth, attributes that endeared her to all fortunate enough to know her. Memorial visitation for Merle will take place on Monday, May 12, 2025, from 5:00pm -7:00pm at McMullen Funeral Home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907

Throughout her life, Merle was known for her welcoming spirit, making those around her feel at ease. Her sense of humor could light up a room, bringing joy and laughter to family gatherings. Merle cherished the moments spent visiting with her family, often sharing her love through the simple yet profound act of feeding them. These memories reflect the deep bonds she cultivated with each member of her family.

Merle is survived by her devoted husband, Gene Cotton; her children, Victoria Brocato (Larry), Todd McPherson, Pamela Michell (Mike), Rodney Cotton (Linda), and Chris Cotton (Christa). She also leaves behind nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, all of whom carry her spirit forward in their lives.

As a matriarch, Merle’s legacy will continue through her family, who will undoubtedly honor her memory by embodying the kindness, humor, and love she so generously shared. Her presence will be profoundly missed, but the love she imparted will remain a guiding light for her family for years to come.
