Sfc Eugenio (Ret.) Vasquez

SFC (Ret.) Eugenio Vasquez, 96, of Columbus, GA died Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at Columbus Hospice House.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, May 13, 2019 at the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907 with Rev. Father Dave Hamm and Rev. Ed Rollins officiating. Interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
SFC (Ret.) Vasquez was born September 11, 1922 in Batesville, TX son of the late Tomas Vasquez and Maria Prado Vasquez. He retired from the U.S. Army as Sergeant First Class. He was a WWII Veteran, serving at the Battle of the Bulge. He proudly served in the 82nd Airborne and often talked of his fond memories jumping. After retiring from the Army, he worked and retired from the Georgia Department of Corrections, with his last assignment being Food Service Supervisor at Jack T. Rutledge Correctional Facility. He loved hunting and playing pool. He enjoyed watching baseball and football, especially the Atlanta Braves, Dallas Cowboys and the Atlanta Falcons.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Daniels Vasquez, siblings: Martin Vasquez, Ramon Vasquez, Hepolito Vasquez, Marinez Vasquez and Pauline Vasquez. Children: Jeanie Clouatre, Bobby Vasquez, Erlinda Grogg.
Survivors include his sons, Ray Vasquez (Cheryl) of Midland, GA, Dale Vasquez (Brenda) of Fortson, GA and daughter-in-law, Peggy Vasquez of Box Springs, GA, 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, siblings, Esperanza Olvedo of Uvalde, TX, Tomas Vasquez, Jr. of Greeley, CO and Estella Martinez of Rapid City, SD, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Columbus Hospice House 7020 Moon Rd. Columbus, GA 31909 or to House of Heroes, Inc. 1225 Webster Ave. Columbus, GA 31901.
