SGM (Ret.) Allen Byron Jenkins passed away from this world on Monday, May 29, 2017.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, June 2, 2017 at Christ the King Catholic Church 6700 GA-354 Pine Mountain, GA 31822 with Father Madden officiating. A private interment will be held at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.

Born December 31, 1936 in Dallas, TX to Oscar T. Jenkins and Helen Manning Jenkins. SGM Jenkins entered active service in 1954 and retired in 1984. During his service, he served with the 82nd Airborne Division during the Dominican Republic crisis. He then retired to Ft. Bragg where he became an instructor in the unit's Raider School. He completed Ranger training at Ft. Benning where he spent a great part of his career. He was selected to be an instructor in the Ranger Department where he stayed until his assignment to Vietnam, where he spent 46 months. While there, he served with the 173rd Airborne Brigade, The Vietnamese Rangers and was on an advisory team under MACV. The remainder of his career was spent in the Ranger Department and three tours in Germany.

After 30 years of active duty, he worked for Civil Service at Ft. Benning where he served as an analyst for eight years and then as the Logistics Officer for the IOBC. He finally retired in 2000 after a total of 46 years of service to his country.

During his service, he received several awards some of which are the VN Service Medal, Silver Star, four Bronze Stars, Meritorious Service Ribbon, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, the Vietnamese Ranger Badge, the Air Medal, The Order of Saint Maurice, The Ranger Tab and Senior Parachutist wings, and the Army Commendation Medal.

He was a lifetime member of the World-Wide Army Rangers, DAV, and the 173 Airborne Brigade Association. He was a graduate of CSU and a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Pine Mountain, GA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother, Margaret, step-father, Charlie Davis and his brothers, Robert L. Jenkins and Jerry Jenkins all of San Antonio, TX.

He is survived by his wife, Linda, children, Sandra Jackson (Dennis), Richard Jenkins, Tamara Graham, Patrick Graham (JoAnn), grandchildren, Amanda Christian (Britt), Courtney Wolf (Brian), Amber Halstead (James Pyles), Robert Jenkins (Hayley Holbrooks), Summer Wilson (Alonzo), Kyle Graham and Cole Graham, 7 great-grandchildren, sister, Carole Bonewald (John) of San Antonio, TX.

As an old warrior once said, "Old Soldiers Never Die, They just fade away".

Flowers will be accepted but those who wish may make memorial contributions to Christ the King Catholic Church or to PAWS Humane 4900 Milgen Rd. Columbus, GA 31909.
