Sherman B. Hinson, 88 years old, died on August 3, 2026, in his home in Fortson, GA.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 7, 2026, in the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home located at 3874 Gentian Boulevard in Columbus. Reverand Jonathan McNeese will be officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation between 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., one hour prior to the funeral. A graveside service with military honors will follow at Parkhill Cemetery.

Sherman was born on November 29, 1937, in Geneva, AL, to the late Shellie and Clara Smith Hinson. He joined the United States Army during the Korean war and was stationed in France shortly after marrying Elsie “Margo” Boatner, his wife of 70 years. He was a man of great faith, devoted to the Lord and the congregation at Greater Life Baptist Church. He loved to work in the yard, tinker at his pump house, listen to country/gospel music and watch old westerns. Sherman would do anything for anyone who needed help. He had a generous heart and spirit.

Sherman is survived by his wife of 70 years, Margo Hinson; his sister, Debbie Blanton and her children, Stephanie Murphy and Ronnie Bailey and great nephew, Will; his niece, Dana Michaels and husband Ben, their daughters Sabrina and Noelle; his niece, Pamela Stevens and husband Ralph and their daughter Samantha; his nephew Scott Boatner and wife Melonie and their sons Roger Craig and Mitchell; his nephew Jeff Boatner and wife Melanie and their children Kayson and Will; and his nephew, Keith Boatner and wife Kim and their sons Nathan and Jackson.
