Sumiyo “Sue” Ellison, 97, of Columbus, GA passed away peacefully on the morning of Wednesday, June 17, 2026.

An informal service celebrating Sue’s life will be held 10:00AM EST, Monday June 22, 2026 at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA. The service is to be livestreamed.

Sue was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan. She received a high school education and worked as a bilingual secretary at an import- export company where she met her future husband Raymond Eugene Ellison. They married and initially settled in Tokyo and then moved to the United States in 1952. Sue became a military wife moving first to Valley Forge Pennsylvania and later settling permanently in Columbus, Georgia near Fort Benning. She was a homemaker and an avid reader. She was a life long learner, a devoted mother to her only son Bill, and a doting grandma to her grandsons David and Luke.

Sue is survived by her son Bill, daughter-in-law Pattie, grandson David, her Ellison nieces Joyce, Barbara, and Debbie, and her nieces and nephews in the Someya family.
