Sylvia was born on August 13, 1953, in Anahuac, Texas, Sylvia lived a life filled with love, service, and unshakeable faith. She was a devoted daughter of Barbara Powell and William Carter, both of whom preceded her in death, along with her beloved grandmother, Lois Manning. She is lovingly remembered by her husband of 50 years, Donnie McCoy, and their daughter, Jennifer Redmond. Sylvia's legacy continues through her grandchildren: Darian, Jackson, and Ansley Redmond, as well as her granddaughter-in-law, Haley. She was also the proud great-grandmother of Myles Redmond. Sylvia is survived by her sister, Crystal Powell, her brother, Chuck Powell, her sister-in-law, Rhonda Powell, and her nephew, Brad Powell, who all cherished her deeply.

Over the years, Sylvia established herself as a remarkable professional, serving as a Tax Assessor for the Columbus Consolidated Government and holding the position of Vice President of the Tax Division at Greenpoint Mortgage. Her work was not just a job; it was a reflection of her dedication and commitment to her community.

Sylvia was an active member of Bethesda Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher and President of The Silver Liners Senior Adult Ministry. She found joy in planning engaging activities for others, embodying her compassionate spirit and her desire to bring happiness to those around her.

Education was important to Sylvia; she graduated from Jordan High School and furthered her studies at Columbus Technical College, always seeking to better herself and her understanding of the world.

Her hobbies were diverse and reflected her adventurous spirit. Sylvia loved to travel through the magic of television, exploring shows from around the globe. Saturdays were often spent galavanting with her daughter and granddaughter, creating cherished memories. The North Georgia Mountains and the beach held a special place in her heart, where she enjoyed countless vacations. Sylvia also had a soft spot for animals, doting on her beloved pets: Bella, Spots, and Izzy.

Those who knew Sylvia best described her as strong, loving, caring, and compassionate, with a servant-minded approach to life. Her unwavering faith in God guided her daily, and she shared her beliefs with everyone she met, embodying the message of Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Muhammad J. Mohyuddin for his endless support and love, and to The Hospice House of Columbus, Georgia, for their exceptional care for Sylvia and her family. Special thanks also go to Chris and Jay from 4Ever Young Non Emergency Medical Transport, who became family to Sylvia and showed her and her family incredible compassion.
