Ursula “Uschi” Dietz was born to Heinz and Lieselotte Dietz on September 14th, 1958, in Homburg, Germany. She was 64 years old and died in her home In Columbus, GA on October 10th, 2022.
Ursula lived in Germany for most of her life. She studied Economics in Baden-Baden and held jobs in office administration, transcription, translation, and manufacturing. After marrying Gottfried Kaps, she often traveled to the United States, where she fell in love with the architecture and blue, sunny skies. She moved to Columbus, Georgia in 1992. She was a stay-at-home mom for many years, yet always found time to get involved in school events and activities, sports, and her children’s hobbies.
Ursula’s father Heinz passed away in 2000.Her mother Lieselotte and brother Jürgen and his family still live in Germany.
In 2005, Ursula became the owner of Bare Ware Pottery Studio, LLC. She always said it was her proudest achievement to become a business owner. Although she wasn’t the original owner, Bare Ware Pottery quickly became synonymous with Ursula and frequently had regulars spend most of their days at the studio. Anyone who visited Bare Ware Pottery Studio knew Ursula as the animated and active owner of the studio, often running circles around anyone there. She was always thorough and detailed, but calming enough to get a perfect baby footprint on any work of art.
Ursula’s favorite pastime was spending time with her grandchildren: Oliver, Natalie, and Eleanor. She enjoyed sitting by the pool in the spring and summer and bicycling in the fall and winter. She jumped at any opportunity to get out in the sunshine and fresh air.
Ursula’s favorite trip destination was Panama City Beach, with a detour to Chautauqua Vineyards and pick up a case of her two favorite wines, Sunset Red and Beachberry Breeze. She loved the beach and always wished to retire and buy a house in Florida. Ursula planned to retire in 2023.
Ursula is survived by her family, Bernhard (Erin), Oliver (grandson), Patrick (Kate), Natalie (granddaughter), Michael, Markus, and Kevin. Her pet dog Charlie has been adopted by Bernhard and his family.
