Vertie Mae Crooks

Vertie Mae Crooks, 85 of Columbus, GA died Wednesday, October 5, 2022.

A visitation will be held 3:00-5:00 PM Sunday, October 16, 2022 at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.

Vertie was born August 3, 1937 in Lower Fork, NC to the late James Parr and Mary Etta Junie Spake Parr. She made Columbus, GA her home. Vertie was in the graduating class of 1955 from Central High School of Charlotte, North Carolina. Vertie’s biggest joys in life were being a military wife to her husband, Ron, of 47 years, a mother, a grandmother, great-grandmother and a devoted friend to many. Vertie loved watching her son’s wrestling matches and karate tournaments; her daughter’s horse shows and her granddaughters’ softball games. She was an athlete of many sports; coached softball in Germany; spent many nights at the bowling alley; a world traveler either with her late husband or her friends and family. She was also an avid member of Gold's Gym and Max Fitness where socialization was a top priority.

Other than her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Rt. Lt. Col. Ronald William Crooks and her sister Dorothy “Dotty” Cassidy.

She is survived by her son Donald (Donna) Crooks of Ellerslie, GA and daughter Lareina Crooks (Brian Allison) of Upatoi, GA; sister Dolly Bradshaw of Morganton, NC; grandchildren Lauren Crooks of Columbus, GA, Tarah (Wes) Wingard of Ellerslie, GA; great-grandchildren Camden and Madison Wingard.
