William "Bill" Gordy

Bill Gordy passed away peacefully at his home on May 30, 2025.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 2, 2025, at 2:00 pm at Evangel Church, followed by a private burial.

Bill Gordy was born in Columbus, Georgia, the son of the late Carroll Cabaniss Gordy and Schley Gordy, Jr. He was a lifelong resident of Columbus and graduated from Columbus High School in 1964. He attended West Georgia College. He served in the Army for two years and the Army Reserve for six years. Bill Gordy married Val Gordy on April 20, 1968, and they were happily married for 57 years.

He is survived by his wife, Val Gordy; his daughter, Kitty Walker (Chris); and his son, Schley Gordy (Jill). His grandchildren include Katherine Buracker, Schley Gordy, Merry-Alice Gordy, Anne Henley Walker, Bennett Walker, and Phillip Walker. He was preceded in death by his sister, the late Sally Kenimer (Guy). He is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and other beloved family members.

Bill cherished the relationships he built with everyone he encountered during his 63 years at Gordy Construction Company. We are forever grateful to Dr. Andy Roddenbery and Dr. Ron Hudson, who provided excellent care and, most importantly, loving friendships.

Bill had many passions, which included fishing and quail hunting. Piney Creek Plantation was his second home.
